Sam Hainey. Ex-Paratrooper. Finishes what he starts.

Most tradesmen with a military background joined the Army first and learned a trade afterwards. Sam did it the other way round. He already had ten years of flooring experience before joining the Parachute Regiment. After four years of service, he simply returned to the trade he knew best.

Since then he’s fitted floors on both sides of the world — including two years running his own successful flooring company in New Zealand before returning home to Scotland. Twenty years on the tools, all told. The standard has never changed.

What the Paras added wasn’t the skill — it was the ingrained habit of doing things in the right order, including the parts nobody will ever see. He turns up when he says he will. He’ll spend a full morning sorting a subfloor that another fitter would just cover up. And he always finishes what he starts.

It’s also why he takes on the jobs most fitters prefer to avoid: stairs and wet rooms. These are the two jobs where poor work gets found out — and the two Sam actually enjoys doing properly.
